I love salad greens, but when stored incorrectly tender leaves quickly become slimy and inedible. It seems to me that when purchased in a plastic “clam shell” (box) the slime appears sooner rather than later. I’d like to share my method for keeping extending the shelf life of these boxed greens. For other greens (not sold in a plastic box), or for tender head lettuce or bunches of fresh herbs, place them in a paper towel-lined, ziptop bag as soon as you get home from the supermarket. This should help extend their shelf life too.
